SCI Engineering, Inc. was originally established as Soils Consultants, Inc. in 1978. After adding several new disciplines throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the company name was changed in 1999 to SCI Engineering, Inc. to better reflect the diverse services provided. Since its founding, SCI has grown steadily to become a multi-discipline,
award-winning firm now with more than 150 employees in six office locations.
As president of SCI, Mark is responsible for the firm’s strategic direction and technical guidance for its geotechnical functions. The majority of his engineering and project management experience over the past 30 years has involved transportation projects for local agencies and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). He currently serves on several committees and holds key positions with several organizations including the Leadership Council of Southwestern Illinois Executive Committee, the Transportation Research Board Earthworks Committee, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois Board of Directors, the St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Association Board of Directors, and the Enterprise Client Advisory Board. He is affiliated with the Illinois and National Societies of Professional Engineers, Southern Illinois Builders Association, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He earned his Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (MS&T) and has been inducted into the MS&T Academy of Civil Engineers. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Illinois, Missouri, and Texas.
As Senior Vice President and Director of Natural Resource services at SCI, Scott is in a unique position to advocate external sustainable practices through SCI’s natural resource and environmental service departments. Under Scott’s direction, the firm has become well-known in the industry for providing services for the creation and restoration of wetlands throughout the Midwest region. He also frequently lectures at public outreach events about the benefits of green practices. He joined SCI in 1994, and earned his Master’s degree in Pedology (Soil Classification) and his Bachelor of Science degree in Soil Science from the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana. He is a Professional Soil Classifier and a Certified and Professional Soil Scientist. Scott Chairs and serves on several prominent committees including Progress 64 West Membership Chair, Society of American Military Engineers Scott Field Post Scholarship Chair, American Council of Engineering Companies Environment & Energy Committee, East-West Gateway Water Resources Advisory Committee, and the St. Louis Earth Day Water Symposium Planning Committee. His associations include the American Society of Agronomy, Illinois Soil Classifiers Association, Illinois Association of Floodplain & Stormwater Management, Missouri Association of Professional Soil Scientists, American Council of Engineering Companies – Illinois, American Public Works Association, and American Society of Civil Engineers.
As Senior Vice President and Director of Environmental Services at SCI, Karl oversees all aspects of the Environmental Services Group, which includes the performance of Phase One and Phase Two Environmental Assessments, Phase One and Phase Two Archaeological Surveys, Environmental Impact Statements, Categorical Exclusions, Underground Storage Tank removal monitoring and surveys, corrective action plans, asbestos and lead-based paint surveys, mold investigations, and NPDES permitting and reporting. He joined SCI in 1986 and is a registered Professional Engineer in Missouri and Illinois and a Registered Geologist in Missouri. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (MS&T) and serves on several committees including the Home Builders Association Board of Directors, the American Council of Engineering Companies Missouri Liaison Committee and the St. Charles Economic Development Center Board Treasurer. He is also affiliated with the Association of Engineering Geologists.
Tony joined SCI in 1991 and currently serves as a Vice President and Director of Business Development and oversees the efforts of corporate customer service and marketing, including strategic planning and acquisitions expansion. He also is responsible for operations of the Union and Rolla offices and serves as a consultant for steel services. Tony currently serves on several committees and holds key positions with several organizations including Make-A-Wish Missouri Governing Board, Mercy Foundation Board Chair, American Council of Engineering Companies Transportation Committee, Corps of Engineers – Kansas City Liaison Committee, Downtown Partnership of St. Louis Government Committee, East Central College Foundation Executive Board/Director-at-Large, Urban Land Institute Programs Committee, OneCurveAtaTime Board Member and First State Community Bank Board Member.
Dave joined SCI in 1995 and is an Assistant Vice President and Director of the Construction Services Group. He has 20 years of experience in the field of civil engineering and construction materials testing. His experience and responsibilities include management of the construction services group, including field and laboratory operations. He earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Lindenwood University and Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. He serves on several committees including the Concrete Council of St. Louis Structural Committee, Missouri Chapter of the American Concrete Institute Vice President and City of O’Fallon Public Works Commission Chairman. He is also an active member of the Associated General Contractors of Missouri.
Shawnna joined SCI in 2001 and is a Senior Engineer in the Geotechnical Services Group and an Associate of the company. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Missouri and Illinois and earned a Master’s of Engineering degree in Geotechnics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (MS&T). She currently serves on several committees and holds key positions with several organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers President, Home Builders Association Associate Board of Directors, American Council of Engineering Companies Future Leaders Membership, and is a Younger Member the Society of American Military Engineers. She is also affiliated with the Association of Engineering Geologists, the American Public Works Association, and Women In Transportation.
Ed joined SCI in 1999 and is a Senior Engineer in the Environmental Services department and an Associate of the company. He has over 20 years of experience providing various environmental services and has been responsible for projects throughout the United States. He is a Professional Engineer in Missouri and Illinois and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (MS&T). He currently serves as the Society of American Military Engineers St. Louis Post Treasurer and is affiliated with the Air and Waste Management Association. Ed is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserve working for USTRANSCOM on Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
Mike joined SCI in 1995 and is a Senior Project Scientist in the Natural Resources Services department and an Associate of the company. His experience includes environmental planning, specializing in natural resources including wetland delineations, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, state and federal permitting, public involvement, threatened and endangered species compliance, wetland and waterbody impact assessments and mitigation planning. He has been integral in working with local, state and federal governments to streamline the mitigation banking review process in Illinois and Missouri. He designed and gained approval of the first wetland mitigation bank ever approved by the St. Louis District Corps of Engineers. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and is affiliated with the Society of Wetland Scientists, the U.S. Green Building Council Missouri Gateway Chapter, and the Midwest Bat Working Group.

As a Senior Project Scientist and Associate of SCI, Trey provides environmental consulting and risk management services for a broad spectrum of clientele. He joined SCI in 2003 and specializes in providing project management services for multi-million dollar construction and redevelopment projects that feature a variety of environmental challenges. His environmental leadership for these projects includes evaluation, design, and construction oversight. He is frequently involved in technical negotiations with regulatory authorities on a local state, and federal level. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Chemistry from Maryville University and serves on the American Council of Engineering Companies Environmental Committee and is a member of the Institute of Hazardous Material Managers. Mr. Coad also provides environmental project management and client development services for SCI’s San Antonio office, overseeing all Texas business operations and field service activities.
Brandy joined SCI in 2016 and is the Marketing Director and Public Relations Manager for the company.
She has over 20 years of experience in the A/E industry, as well as an extensive background in media relations, journalism and business development. Her responsibilities include management of all RFP/RFQ processes, digital and social media, advertising, media relations, company branding and internal/external corporate communications. She is a member of SMPS and serves on the executive advisory board for several military support organizations.
Daryl serves as SCI Engineering’s Human Resources Director.
He is highly focused on aligning strategic business objectives with his extensive human resources experiences to develop strong teams in diverse environments, and connecting the best candidates with outstanding opportunities at SCI Engineering.
Steve has over 3 decades of business development and management experience, and has been developing environmental clients since 1981.
He is now serving as an outreach professional in SCI’s Colorado office and throughout the Mountain Region.
