SCI currently holds a national Master Services Contract for provide environmental consulting services with Norfolk Southern Corporation, and has previously performed over 50 asbestos inspections on various structures owned by Norfolk. The structures have ranged from small signal shacks to draw bridges to 300,000-square-foot rail car repair facilities. Several of the structures were over 100 years old and had undergone several renovations.

SCI also performed abatement oversight and third party air monitoring for abatement activities. The most challenging of the structures surveyed for Norfolk Southern was a 25,000-square-foot railway depot constructed in the 1880s. This structure had undergone numerous renovations in which an entirely new wall, floor, and ceiling surfaces had been constructed over the existing wall surfaces. In many cases, these items contained asbestos containing materials such as transite and a transite-like artificial marble wall covering material. SCI performed abatement monitoring and third party air monitoring during the abatement of the asbestos containing materials contained within this structure. SCI also performs on-going quarterly NPDES sampling.
