SCI was retained as the construction material quality control engineering and materials testing firm for
seven miles of railway alignment and several grade separation structures. The section contained 11 major overhead rail-crossing structures. The total estimated construction costs exceeded $30 million. SCI also performed material tests in our laboratory to evaluate compliance with project specifications for the subcontractor installing rail ballast.
MetroLink Maintenance Facility
East St. Louis, Illinois
This $12 million maintenance facility was built with precast concrete wall panels. SCI developed the quality control plan and provided construction testing services for the 46,320-square-foot-facility. The building will be used to maintain and wash the MetroLink trains. SCI's scope of services included the inspection and testing of the concrete and grout, weld and bolt torque inspection, and compaction testing during site work and asphalt testing for the parking areas. SCI also observed the installation of the foundation for the catenary poles and tested the ballast.

For the Bi-State Development Agency, SCI provided: concrete testing, including air tests, slump tests, and compressive strength determinations, in addition to soil and aggregate testing.

SCI provided numerous professional services at Skinker Station, Facility 4, Facility 5 and Shrewsbury Station for Metro from 2003 to 2004, including: limited field observations, concrete compression observations, backfill compaction testing, concrete quality assurance testing, concrete testing services, and undercut observations. Concrete quality assurance testing was performed on concrete placed for Big Bend Bridge, Shrewsbury Station Bridge, BNSF & I-44 Bridge, and Black Creek and Linden Road overpasses.
