Illinois Route 255
Madison County, Illinois

SCI is providing Phase III Construction Engineering and Inspection Services for the extension of Illinois 255 in Madison County. This construction project includes the inspection of storm sewers, box culverts, embankment, and full-depth bituminous pavement. It also involves material testing for concrete, bituminous, and embankment for approximately 5 miles of new alignment from IL 140 to Fosterburg Road for the Illinois Department of Transportation. Approximately 800,000 cubic yards of fill will be placed for this project.

The first phase of Illinois Route 255 between Interstate 270 near Edwardsville and Route 143 opened in 1998 and since then, residential and commercial growth has followed throughout Madison County. The new phase that opened in the fall of 2006 extends the four-lane divided highway by 7.6 miles, from Route 143 in Roxana north through Wood River, East Alton and Bethalto to Fosterburg Road in Alton. Construction began in summer 2000 and cost $78.1 million.

When complete, Route 255 will arc 20 miles from Interstate 270 to U.S. Highway 67 in Godfrey. Work is already underway on a 2.6-mile extension of the highway from Fosterburg Road to Seminary Road.
