BaratHaven
St. Charles County, Missouri

The 206-acre BaratHaven development was proposed as a multi-faceted community. As designed, the community will include single-family homes, villas, townhouses, retail shops, a parochial school, multi-purpose athletic fields, and an extensive trail system. SCI was involved in performing the wetland delineation, applying for the Section 404 Permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Section 401 Water Quality Certification from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and designing a large mitigation package for the project.

Through extensive coordination with federal and state regulatory agencies, SCI designed a unique mitigation plan that included the creation of a 2-acre emergent and forested wetland within the floodplain of Dardenne Creek, over 4 acres of riparian restoration along the banks of Dardenne Creek that will aid in the stabilization and water quality of the creek, creation of a 15-acre lake that will contain a wetland shelf and excellent fish habitat. In addition, SCI incorporated natural filtration systems to improve the water quality of the Dardenne Creek watershed. Over 90% of the stormwater leaving the BaratHaven site will be treated naturally before it leaves the site. The natural treatments include detention basins that also serve as wetlands and grass lined swales.
