St. Louis Art Museum
St. Louis, Missouri

SCI completed the geotechnical and archaeology portion of the St. Louis Art Museum's expansion project. SCI's geotechnical services, which began in 2005, included two preliminary geotechnical reports and a third Geotechnical report (issued in 2006) that was completed after the location and configuration of the proposed expansion was significantly altered following completion of the field exploration. As design progressed, the geotechnical team was responsive to questions from the structural engineer and other design members. During this process SCI addressed issues related to general site conditions, foundations, drilled piers, temporary shoring system, building subgrade, pavements, and utilities.

SCI also has previous experience with this project through our cultural resource services. SCI was hired by the Museum to consult on the possibility of discovering significant cultural material associated with the 1904 World's Fair. Dr. Steve Dasovich has studied the core samples from the initial geotechnical borings to look for signs of artifacts. Further, he observed soils during preparation for tree removal. After receiving a phone call from the Museum, he also observed a possible section of a foundation for the east wing of the Palace of Fine Arts.
