City of Herculaneum, Joachim Loop Trail
Herculaneum, Missouri

SCI conducted a wetland and waterbody delineation to acquire a Section 404 Permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a 401 Water Quality Certification from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR). The project involved wetland and waterbody delineation on 71 acres owned by the City of Herculaneum, Missouri. The entire area was within the floodplain of the Joachim Creek and the backwater of the Mississippi River. The project proposed the creation of a walking/biking trail called the Joachim Loop Trail. The project was done as part of a community development plan intended to focus efforts on creating green space and outdoor recreation along the Joachim Creek. SCI provided a wetland and waterbody delineation report and impact assessment. The report identified and characterized wetland habitats, watercourse designations, and provided an assessment of impacts. Wetland boundaries were surveyed through GPS and provided to the civil engineer for a review of alternate options.
