Department of Veterans Affairs

SCI has provided asbestos and lead-based paint services for the Department of Veterans Affairs for multiple renovation projects including the John Cochran VA Hospital, the Truman VA Medical Center, and the Marion VA Medical Center.

John Cochran VA Hospital
SCI performed an assessment for the Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, to identify asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in accessible areas of the building and to prepare a plan for abatement. The survey was conducted to satisfy the requirements for the asbestos National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutant for demolition and renovation.

The area surveyed consisted of approximately 2,000-square-feet of office/file storage room. SCI identified approximately 1,425 square feet of ACM floor tile and mastic, 280 linear feet of ACM pipe wrap and mudded elbows, and eight assumed transite panels. Twenty-one samples were collected and analyzed for bulk asbestos content. SCI also prepared abatement specifications and provided third party air monitoring during the removal of asbestos-containing pipe wrap, elbow mud, floor tile and mastic.

Truman VA Medical Center
SCI evaluated asbestos containing materials prior to the renovation of the pharmacy space at the Truman VA Medical Center located in Columbia, Missouri, and performed a review of previous assessment reports prepared for the facility. SCI also performed a reconnaissance of the pharmacy area supplemented by limited sampling activities.

Marion VA Medical Center
SCI evaluated suspect asbestos containing materials and lead-based paint which were likely to be impacted by the replacement of windows and/or window caulk at the Marion VA Medical Center in Marion, Illinois as part of the Exterior Caulking Phase of the project. SCI also completed asbestos and lead-based paint survey activities to identify significant areas of asbestos and lead-based paint which were likely to be impacted by the replacement of numerous fire doors throughout the facility.
