Dynegy Midwest Generation Baldwin Energy Complex (BEC)
Baldwin, Illinois

Located in Randolph County, Illinois, BEC is owned by Dynegy Midwest Generation, and is the nation's first completed Clean Coal Power Initiative (CCPI) project. The plant operates three coal-fired units. Units 1 and 2 are 600 MW cyclone boilers that were designed to fire high-sulfur bituminous coal.

SCI provided geotechnical and construction observation and testing services during construction. The geotechnical exploration was performed to explore the subsurface conditions and provide recommendations for the crane mats in Unit 3 of the project. Three crane pads were planned for the area near the proposed scrubber in the Unit 3 portion of the BEC. Two of the crane pads will have a maximum pressure of 13,000 pounds per square foot (psf) with a total load of 63,700 pounds. SCI also provided geotechnical services for the crane mats in Units 1 and 2 scrubbers of the project.

Construction services include providing observation of the installation of auger-cast grout piles, concrete testing, and mortar and grout testing during construction
