St. Charles Convention Center and Embassy Suites Hotel
St. Charles, Missouri
The 154,000-square-foot, two-story convention center features meeting spaces, an exhibition hall, a main ballroom, and an adjacent 12-story Embassy Suites hotel with 286 rooms.
Since the project began in the 1990s, SCI has been providing geotechnical, construction, and environmental engineering services. SCI originally provided a geotechnical report in December 1997, that included an equation to calculate the allowable uplift capacity of individual piers in soil, and also provided a net allowable bearing pressure. Later geotechnical services included end bearing and skin friction values for calculating allowable pier capacities; a study to better define the elevations of auger refusal in the area of the proposed hotel for the convention center; and Global stability analyses for two retaining walls based on designs prepared by another consultant.
Following the groundbreaking in September 2003, SCI has observed and documented the installation of 210 drilled piers; provided the testing of structural fill, cast-in-place concrete, and asphaltic concrete pavement; and performed inspection and testing of structural steel, reinforced masonry, and sprayed-on fireproofing in the facility.
