SCI provided construction testing and observation services and previously explored the subsurface conditions for this 19,700-square-foot hotel located at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and I-64. The seven-story hotel has a footprint of approximately 19,700 square feet, a 10,000-square-foot basement, and has associated parking and drive lanes. SCI observed the installation of 106 drilled piers and provided field and laboratory testing services to evaluate concrete compression and soil compaction during the general site grading. Construction services included:
- Drilled pier installation observations
- Making, curing and testing compression test specimens
- Performing rebound hammer tests on the concrete
- Providing compaction testing services during the general site grading
Twelve borings were drilled and SCI recommended using drilled pier foundations for the support of the proposed hotel or, as an alternate deep foundation system, driven steel H-piles. Recommendations were also made regarding site development and construction considerations, and an additional exploration was undertaken due to uncertainties regarding the make-up of the existing site fill.
