The Fountains at Clayton Road
Richmond Heights, Missouri
Three structures with associated parking, drive lanes, drainage, and utilities were planned for a busy commercial site bounded by Clayton Road to the north, Interstate 70 to the east, Brentwood Boulevard to the west, and the University Club to the south. The three structures include: an eight-story Hilton Hotel with a footprint of roughly 22,000 square feet; a 12-story Westin Hotel with a footprint of roughly 18,000 square feet; and a four-story parking garage with a footprint of roughly 32,000 square feet, south of the proposed Westin Hotel.
The site is presently developed with several structures to be removed. SCI provided subsurface explorations including geophysical imaging services. Specifically, multi-channel analysis of surface waves (MASW) was performed to measure the shear wave velocity of site soils with depth. This capability is becoming important to optimize the site categorization in accordance with the 2003 IBC, and can result in huge cost savings to the owner in the structural design requirements of the project, particularly high-rise facilities.
SCI also analyzed and evaluated the soils, and made design recommendations for drilled pier foundations, below-grade walls, site drainage and grading, pavements, and site development and construction. SCI also completed an Environmental Site Assessment report.
