St. John's Mercy Hospital
Energy Building
This project featured the construction of a new Energy Building and a pedestrian walkway in Washington, Missouri. The development consisted of a five- to seven-story addition and a three-story parking garage. The total construction costs for this development were approximately $15 million. SCI also provided a geotechnical exploration for a separate addition to the to the hospital and parking garage to characterize and evaluate the subsurface conditions and provide recommendations for foundations.
Ambulatory Surgery Center Addition
The $6.1 million surgery center was designed with future growth in mind. The design allows up to six floors to be added above the single-story building. The building's foundation is oversized to accommodate the loads associated with a seven-story building. Structural systems extend above the roof, spaces for electrical and mechanical systems are larger to accommodate expansion and elevator pits also were installed.
SCI's geotechnical services included field exploration and laboratory testing. Construction services included observation and documentation of drilled pier installation to verify that the piers were installed in a manner consistent with the project specifications and requirements. An SCI engineer observed the pier shaft and pier bottom for size, depth, and quality of the bearing materials. SCI also provided geotechnical services for another building addition and parking garage for St. John's.
