Mehlville School District
SCI provided a comprehensive suite of services to the Mehlville School District, including various environmental, geotechnical, and construction services. SCI initially became involved in environmental services for the District when we were asked to review a scope of work prepared by another consultant regarding the removal and replacement of windows with asbestos-containing caulk and glaze. SCI was able to suggest a less expensive method of addressing the problem, which resulted in a savings to the school district of several hundred thousand dollars. Since then, SCI has performed surveys for asbestos and lead-based paint on the majority of the Mehlville School District buildings and has also performed mold/indoor air quality (IAQ) and noise studies on several school buildings.
In addition, SCI provided environmental construction and renovation monitoring, which included the removal and replacement of the aforementioned windows and other renovation projects throughout the Mehlville School District. SCI's noise experience with the District primary involved sound attenuation barriers surrounding air conditioning chillers as well as recommendations regarding the placement of new air conditioning equipment. SCI performed the removal and closure documentation of a UST system at Mehlville Senior High School, and SCI has also provided various geotechnical and construction services for numerous construction projects throughout the District.
SCI also performed pre-renovation lead based paint surveys at 18 schools within the Mehlville School District. The firm also coordinated the design and implementation of containment procedures to be used when renovation activities might involve building components coated with lead based coatings, which included lead glazed structural block and window units.
