Columbia Community Unit School District No. 4
Middle School
The 97,536-square-foot middle school project featured 24 classrooms, three computer rooms, five special education classrooms, and a 600-seat gymnasium. Band room, vocal music room, art room, library, common/dining area, and performance stage are also among the areas receiving improvements. The estimated completion date is October 2005.
SCI initially performed wetland delineation at a 41-acre site that was to be developed into the new middle school. Wetlands and waterbodies identified on the site required a Section 404 Permit from the Corps of Engineers and Section 404 Water Quality Certification from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA).
SCI later provided construction phase engineering services for the middle school, including subgrade stabilization, job progress meetings, and settlement monitoring.
Middle and High School
SCI completed a geotechnical study for the proposed middle school and improvements to the existing high school grounds. The project site is approximately 41 acres and featured improvements to the existing high school parking and common ground areas in addition to the construction of a middle school building south of an unnamed tributary to Wilson Creek. The existing high school building was constructed in 1970, with an addition constructed between 1998 and 2000.
High School
SCI performed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment of an approximate 16-acre parcel of undeveloped land located south of Columbia High School. The environmental team explored for evidence of recognized environmental conditions, including hazardous, toxic, or petroleum substances at or adjacent to the subject site in general accordance with the ASTM Practice E 1527-00.
