Cultural Resource Award presented to The DESCO Group and SCI

The American Cultural Resources Association (ACRA) presented The DESCO Group, along with SCI Engineering, Inc., with its 2007 ACRA Industry Award for their work on preservation of the Heet Family Farm in Belleville, Illinois.

The award was presented at the organization's Annual Conference in St. Petersburg, Florida on September 29. Accepting the award for SCI were Steve J. Dasovich, Ph.D., Head of Cultural Resource Services and Karl E. Ruhmann, Vice President and Director of Environmental Services. Accepting the award for The DESCO Group was Tim Williams, Vice President of Construction Services.

The award to SCI was in recognition for "Supporting their client's challenge of moving the historic Heet Family Farm, and partnering with the family to ensure the farm's preservation."

The project involved the moving of the family farm about 400 yards to a site at the edge of the Heet property. The move was part of the arrangement the Heet family negotiated with The DESCO Group to expand the Belleville Crossing retail development. The National Geographic Channel taped the event to use in an episode of the show "Mega Moves." SCI provided archaeological as well as architectural history services on the project.
