The majority of our work at SCI Engineering comes from repeat clients who appreciate the value of our services, as well as our professionalism and responsiveness. We take pride in working hard over the years to gain and retain their trust. Here’s what a few of them had to say about us. . .
United States Department of the Interior
Rachel Franklin Weekly
I am pleased to inform you that I have reviewed and approved the Historic American Engineering Record documentation for the Hematite Fuel Fabrication Facility, located near Festus, Jefferson County, Missouri. The completed package, . . . meets HAER standards for Level II mitigation documentation and is ready for transmittal to the Library of Congress for accession into the national HAER collection. We commend (SCI) for coming into the project after it was well underway and bringing it to a successful completion.
Doe Run Company
Aaron Miller
"The Doe Run Company has utilized SCI Engineering, Inc. (SCI) to assist us in meeting U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) guidelines for wetland mitigation. As a result of SCI's involvement, these guidelines were met in a way that satisfied all three agencies, as well as streamlined the process for us. I was very pleased with the service that SCI provided on our project, and I would like to personally express my gratitude."
Natural Resource Group, L.L.C.
Jeff Thommes
"Natural Resource Group L.L.C. would like to recognize SCI Engineering for their outstanding performance on a recent pipeline project. We looked to SCI to provide wetland and waterbody delineations and habitat evaluations for NEPA compliance along a corridor stretching close to 200 miles. We were very impressed with SCI's ability to handle a large project such as this so effectively and efficiently. A project of this scale requires constant communication, attention to detail, adaptability, and on-the-fly troubleshooting, all of which SCI provided. Several times throughout the project, SCI supplied additional manpower to meet strict deadlines and implemented creative strategies to increase performance. Their knowledge of federal regulations and requirements helped to streamline the project and save on costs. We value the relationship that we have developed with SCI and look forward to working together on future projects."
Arbor Homes, Incorporated
Rich Jameson
"Arbor Homes recently hired SCI Engineering, Inc. to perform wetlands permitting at one of our sites. Your expertise and skill when handling the wetlands permitting was highly impressive, and we were thoroughly satisfied with your performance.
During the wetlands permitting stage, we discovered that we would have to submit a bioengineering plan to the Corps of Engineers for a nationwide permit. At this time, we made the decision to give SCI the opportunity to develop the bioengineering plan. Your staff began to work on the bioengineering plan immediately, and within a short period of time they were able to develop a plan that was accepted by the Corps. We were extremely impressed by the efforts of your staff to remediate this problem as quickly and efficiently as possible, allowing us to move forward on our project. Not only did you develop an acceptable plan, you also took into consideration cost factors and were able to save us several thousand dollars. To us, that is the sign of a company who is truly committed to the needs of their client."
Kaskaskia Regional Port District
George Andres, General Manager
"Kaskaskia Regional Port District contacted SCI Engineering, Inc. to perform a wetland delineation and an archaeology survey on a 115-acre site. The property was located in the river's flood plain and was bisected by a creek. SCI provided a timely on-site investigation to delineate the jurisdictional waterbodies, but the services didn't stop there. Following the delineation, SCI quickly prepared a report and submitted the appropriate permit applications to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. SCI worked closely and proactively with our Port Engineer to devise a development plan that met both our developmental needs and received approval from the governmental agencies. SCI continually updated the Port District with the status of the project and exhibited professionalism to the highest degree.
We feel that SCI has saved the Port District considerable time and money. It has also been very convenient to receive a package of consulting services from the same company such as SCI offers. On this project alone, the Port District used wetland services and archaeological services and has recently been contacted about the construction services and testing that SCI offers. We look forward to SCI's continued assistance through the remainder of this job, and will definitely contact SCI for future projects."
Vantage Homes, Inc.
Todd Dwyer
"Vantage Homes would like to thank SCI Engineering, Inc. for your work on a recent wetland delineation and permit application. We were very pleased with the knowledge and expertise that you demonstrated during this project.
After reviewing our proposed development plan, SCI suggested a construction method that would completely avoid the need to acquire a federal permit. Vantage Homes followed this suggestion and saved several months since we did not need to wait for the federal permit. The time saved allowed us to begin construction sooner, putting us ahead of schedule for the project. This suggestion also saved us tens of thousands of dollars that would have been spent on additional consulting, engineering, and redesign fees. We were highly impressed that SCI chose to provide us with the most cost-effective and beneficial solution to this project, even though it meant they would make less money themselves. It is rare to find a company who puts their clients' interests before their own, and SCI has proven to us that they truly want to provide their clients with the best possible solutions on their projects."
The Mullenix Companies
Gregory S. Mullenix
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your company for your recent efforts and contributions in the issuance of the required Department of the Army permits. The efforts you and your staff displayed were exemplary. We were extremely impressed with your company's ability to work with the jurisdictional governmental authorities to get results. In fact, your company far exceeded our timeframe expectations in receiving the required permits."
Allgeier, Martin & Associates, Inc.
Dean A. Willis
"SCI worked well with ours and the client's staff, and also maintained a good relationship with MDNR. The depth of SCI's professional staff, combined with an in-house laboratory, provided a quality soils report within the established timeframe. We look forward to working with SCI Engineering, Inc. on future projects."
Fort Zumwalt School District
Dr. Bernard J. DuBray, Superintendent
"This letter is written to express my personal appreciation and that of the entire Fort Zumwalt School District for the services your firm has provided the district throughout the massive building program we have been engaged in over the past decade. . . [SCI] has provided the vast majority of these projects with geotechnical and materials testing services necessary to assure a quality and structural sound project. Your company's involvement with our middle school project has already benefited the district since there was a great deal of unstable soil on our site.
With the district's twenty plus years of experience with [SCI], I really wouldn't consider going forward with any project with which I had concerns with the soil conditions on site. While the fees your company charges are not the most important consideration in selecting a soils engineering firm, it is important to me that you have consistently been competitive when multiple quotes for services have been requested."
Target Corporation
Carl Koschany, Sr OSR
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and SCI Engineering for your recent efforts towards the on-time completion of the Target Store at Green Mount Crossing Drive in Shiloh, Illinois. Thank you and the entire SCI team for an outstanding effort. SCI's commitment to quality and service was evident throughout the project. Your attention to client satisfaction proved to be a most helpful resource for me. I was able to call on you anytime with confidence.
I would also like to thank the SCI technicians for their work. I am most appreciative of their attention to detail, safety and cost. They understood the importance of maintaining our construction schedule and always kept me informed with timely reports, often stopping by my office for a one-to-one update."
Norfolk Southern Corporation
R.H. Raber, Engineer Environmental Operations
"I would like to take a moment, on behalf of myself and Norfolk Southern Corporation, to thank [SCI] for the exceptional service and the opportunity to work with [the staff] at SCI . . . Responsiveness, professionalism, field experience and broad range of Geological and environmental expertise served Norfolk Southern's requirements without exception. It goes without saying that SCI's day-to-day communication and accurate follow-up will be missed within the Cleveland Region. . . SCI's exemplary "turn-key" service is truly one-of-a-kind within the industry."
KCI Construction Company
Bob Downey
"We have successfully completed micro-silica pours and 95% dirt work on our UMSL Garage Site. I'd like to take this opportunity to commend your personnel I was pleasured to work with. . . Your rep's attitude toward me, my men, and their work is an asset to your professionalism. Your men's timely work was really appreciated. We look forward to working with your company in the future."
Mid Town 66
Alan Frazier
"I retained SCI to perform removal of two underground storage tanks (USTs) at my property in order to stay in compliance with the Missouri Department of Natural Resource requirements. SCI provided outstanding service throughout the project; from the time of my request for proposal, to project completion. I was completely satisfied with SCI's efforts and would recommend SCI to others."
KBIE Joint Venture
George Covelli, Project Manager
"I would like to take the opportunity to pass on to you, KBIE, Co.'s sincere thanks for the outstanding job that you and your staff have done for the eleven months the project has been running. The professionalism shown [by SCI staff] in providing QA/QC services for every facet of the MetroLink Line Segment Three contract, has allowed KBIE, Co. to reach the 50% completion point, with only nine nonconformance reports being issued. That statistic itself serves as a testament to the outstanding job you and your staff has done."
St. Louis Design Alliance
Jerry Orf
"Received your soils report in record time, ahead of an impossible schedule. As always, thanks for the great service!!"
Balke Brown Associates
D. Suzanne Butler, Senior Vice President
"I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know how much we appreciate working with SCI Engineering. We have had a long-standing relationship with your firm and have always been most pleased with the professionalism and experience of SCI. You and the entire SCI team are always extremely responsive and have a true understanding of the importance of schedules. In our business of commercial development, we are usually working on a tight schedule and often need reports "yesterday." I know we can count on SCI to respond in the fastest time possible and that I can count on the agreed on delivery date.
In working with SCI recently on the Florists' Mutual project in Edwardsville, the Corporate Centre II building in Fairview Heights, and the Central Park Plaza site in O'Fallon, I have been very pleased with the delivery of the scope of work performed by SCI. But, what I really appreciate are the things you and your team do that are 'above and beyond.' From going the extra mile on some steel inspections and concrete testing issues on the Florists' Mutual project, to providing insight on dealing with some soil conditions at Corporate Centre II, to most recently helping us work through some wetland issues on the Central Park Plaza site, SCI is always there to help in any way they can to resolve problems and ensure successful deals."
Nextel Communications
Marci DeCuir
"Our office has worked closely with SCI Engineering, Inc. on approximately 70 job sites over the past year. They have included ground builds, rooftops, and collocation sites throughout Illinois and Missouri. Their work for us has covered Phase I and II Environmental Assessments, NEPA reports, Section 106 reports, architecture and archaeology studies, and Memorandums of Agreement.
Since we have such stringent deadlines to get our sites on the air, their willingness to produce the necessary manpower and equipment in order to achieve that goal helps us to stay on target. Their familiarity not only with the local area, but also with the various state and federal agencies gives them a definite advantage. These relationships help ensure that the ultimate goal of constructing our cell sites is accomplished within the framework of our build plan. When the inevitable problems do arise, their cooperation and skillful management enables the situation to get resolved as soon as possible. The quality of their workmanship combined with the ability to effectively manage timelines makes them our preferred consultant."
Joseph M. Gilroy
Burns & McDonnell (Formerly with TAMS)
"It is my pleasure to comment on SCI Engineering's record of quality service on various projects for which I have been responsible. . . SCI was contracted to perform subsurface investigations, pavement cores, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, and laboratory tests in connection with the 1,000-ft. extension of the Scott AFB runway and the construction of an 8,000-ft. parallel taxiway. This work required SCI to coordinate closely with Base Engineering, Base Operations and the control tower to ensure that the drilling work would not interfere with Air Force requirements for use of the airfield. SCI fulfilled all of the contract operations in a timely manner.
. . . SCI performed nuclear densometric testing for several million cubic yards of earthwork, and concrete and asphalt materials testing for over 100 acres of airfield pavement. . . the resident engineer staff - who worked directly with SCI - made sure to inform me of their high regard for SCI's responsiveness, cooperative attitude, and technical ability.
In my present position as a project manager with Burns & McDonnell, I have had the opportunity to work with SCI on a number of projects including a water tower, a 2-mile large-diameter water transmission main, miscellaneous road work, and the new Midfield Fire Station at Scott AFB. In every case, SCI's performance was more than satisfactory. SCI's staff have consistently shown a desire, not only to perform their own work well, but to help the entire project be a success."
CenterPointe Hospital (Formerly Spirit of St. Louis Hospital)
Gary Dixon, Plant Operations Manager
"SCI was retained by my company to perform underground storage tank (UST) removal in order to stay in compliance with the USEPA and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources regulations. SCI performed the UST removal quickly and efficiently and exceed our expectations for this project. They provided excellent service at a very reasonable cost. Even following completion of the project, I received calls from SCI to make sure I was satisfied with their service."
Cuivre River Electric Cooperative, Inc.
Doug Bagby, Safety Coordinator
"A personal 'Thank You' is in order for the excellent service SCI performed during the recent petroleum spill cleanup project at our facility. With limited time to learn the regulations for a petroleum cleanup of this magnitude, we contacted SCI Engineering, Inc. SCI quickly took steps to report our discovery to the appropriate agencies, conduct the site analysis, develop a project plan, and implement cleanup activities.
When the project began it seemed overwhelming even to an electric utility, but SCI took us through every step. Your project engineer and field technicians were professional and courteous in the face of construction deadlines and pressures inherent with our $250,000 cleanup project.
Your company's experience and knowledge proved invaluable throughout the cleanup. SCI's contacts with state agencies streamlined response time. Fees for SCI, its boring contractors and lab support services, were competitive and reasonably priced. SCI helped eliminate mistakes and accelerate cleanup to easily offset added cost we could have incurred. In effect, using SCI kept many of our costs lower than they may have otherwise been, especially since SCI was familiar with funding resources to help mitigate our cleanup costs. It would be easy to justify using SCI, should we ever need to call upon you again."
Lincoln County Office of Environmental Sanitation
Jim Vilbert and Brett Siefert
"This letter is to thank all the soil scientists for the great job they have done over the summer and for all their conscientious efforts. Your work in the field to provide accurate, detailed soil information (in spite of the difficulties the dry weather has caused in getting your prove into the ground!) has helped to give Lincoln County one of the lowest septic system failure rates in the State. The Lincoln County Office of Environmental Sanitation wants to acknowledge that the information you provide in your soil reports is critical and forms the foundation upon which every septic system is built. We rely on the accuracy of the soils information you provide, without which we could not do our job."
St. Clare Parish Building Committee
Joseph M. Gilroy, P.E.
"On behalf of Father Deiters and the St. Clare Parish Building Committee, I would like to thank SCI for doing a fine job on the cultural resources investigation at the site of our planned new church in Shiloh, Illinois.
Given the hilltop setting of our site, and reports that significant aboriginal artifacts had just been found less than a mile away, we knew the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency would look closely at the cultural resources report for our project. That the IHPA accepted SCI's report without comment or request for additional investigations testifies to the thoroughness of your work.
We especially appreciate your cooperation in scheduling your field work around the planting and harvesting of various crops at the site, to avoid damages. In my professional work as a civil engineer, I have consistently been pleased with SCI's performance as a geotechnical firm. I am pleased now to add a cultural resources investigation to that list of favorable experiences."
Duke Construction
Ryan D. Hodges, P.E.
"Thank you for your professional approach to the investigation for [Upper Bridgeton Site]. We appreciate the technical expertise, sense of urgency, openness and common sense that you brought to the archaeological investigations of the site. This project was under substantial time and monetary constraints and you were able to develop an approach to investigating the site that was both meaningful and cost effective.
Your assistance in negotiating the regulatory compliance jungle surrounding the archaeological issues on this site was a valuable asset to the project team. Your entire staff worked in a professional, untiring manner to complete the fieldwork in the scheduled time frame, through a less than desirable season of the year. They should all be commended for their efforts."
Neumayer Equipment Company, Inc.
Tim Johnson
"Neumayer Equipment Company (NEC) retained SCI on multiple underground storage tank (UST) removal/clean-up projects. Their familiarity with MDNR and petroleum storage tank insurance fund (PSTIF) requirements has allowed our clients to quickly receive 'closure' letters and reimbursement for clean-up activities. By retaining SCI, NEC knows that our best interests (as well as our client's) are well served."
TAMS
Thomas N. Goode, Senior Project Director
"SCI Engineering, Inc.'s performance in providing quality assurance testing for the construction of the MidAmerica St. Louis Airport General Aviation Apron project was exceptional.
We appreciate the outstanding personnel and support provided by your firm. Above all, even though you had several other clients, you always made us feel that we were your most important client."
The Jones Company
Jerry Duepner, Land Development Planner
"I would like to thank SCI Engineering for providing excellent service on our projects. Your evaluations and recommendations are geared to not just function, but to fit our individual needs, as well.
Your response to our requests is quick and efficient. Our outstanding rapport with your staff provides us with the tools we need to stay on track with tight deadlines. I feel confident that I can always trust SCI to do the job."
St. Louis National Stockyards Company
Kathryn A. Kueker
"We have had the occasion to deal with [SCI] on a variety of environmental issues and questions related to our real estate holdings and have always found their professional staff to be of the highest caliber. Any question has been promptly addressed and answered. The staff also has a most realistic approach in dealing with environmental issues. Their information has always been correct, adhering to all rules and regulations, while being cost conscious."
Pentrex Development Corporation
Thomas Wolfner
"SCI was hired by Pentrex to assist us in acquiring Section 404 and Section 401 Permits necessary to begin [a residential development in St. Louis County]. In this business, any reduction in construction delays saves us money. [SCI] provided timely and thorough service. As a consultant, SCI went beyond just preparing the necessary reports and application forms. They worked hard to represent the needs of our project to the regulatory agencies.
SCI's recommendations helped us develop a site plan which satisfied the agency requirements, but also met our project objectives in a cost-effective way. They were able to provide (in-house) all the services necessary to obtain the Permits, which saved us additional time and was convenient. Once our Permit Applications had been submitted, SCI repeatedly followed up with the regulatory agencies and kept our project moving forward. This extra effort has helped make the difference in the success of our project. Again, I would like to express our thanks for the hard work and dedication to this project. We look forward to SCI's continued assistance on future projects, and would definitely recommend SCI to others."
Clarinet LLC
Richard Darragh, Owner/Manager
"When we purchased the Switzer building, we knew we had a greater challenge than usual to make this project a success. Given the location in Laclede's Landing, its proximity to Eads Bridge, the views of the Arch, river and the downtown skyline, as well as the look and notoriety of the building for manufacturing the famous Switzer licorice in the kettles in the basement, saving the abandoned building was a must. We knew we needed a committed team to this project and I knew SCI was the perfect choice."
"Their knowledge and expertise relative to tax credits and environmental issues was extremely beneficial for the Switzer project to move forward. When we lost the building to the storm that devastated the St. Louis area, the very next morning, a representative with SCI called me with a plan of action needed to address the immediate environmental issue caused by the collapse. SCI will be a member of our team as this project progresses and with future projects as well."
